Have fun now!!! Define Fun!!!

In the flurry of every day life, it can be very challenging to remember to have fun. This is a conversation I’ve had on more than one occasion. I was asked during one of these conversations what things I do to have fun and if I had a video of myself when I was asked that, I suspect I looked very similar to a deer in headlights.

I really had to ponder this. When I was a kid, I loved playing most sports. I really had fun playing sports and I loved playing game, like “witches” with the neighborhood kids. It seemed like the possibilities were endless as a child.

Not so much for me as an adult. It slowly but surely seemed to become more serious, with more obligations and less fun.

So now, as a slight more enlightened adult, what can I do for fun and how can I inject fun throughout my day, working or not.

The other night, one of my girlfriends texted me the funnies message and that message set off an almost two hour mad textathon that had us feeling like giddy teenagers. It was FUN!!! I mean really fun. I was laughing and my daughter was with me for part of it and she was laughing about what we were communicating and how we were communicating to each other.

So since then, I either belt out a song or I dance to a song at least once a day, for 3-5 minutes and it completely elevates my mood and I’m already finding that I’m desiring to infuse more fun into my daily life. How fun!!!

The question I would love for you to ponder and it’s a simple one, but you might feel a bit stumped at first if it’s been a while since you’ve had some fun is this…

What’s something you can do that only take you about 3-5 minutes each day, just to get in the habit of smile or even laughing. Here’s a few I’ve come up with.

  • Watching comedians
  • Watching adorable animals
  • Belting out a song
  • Dancing to one of your favorite forbidden songs.
  • Have a textathon with a friend.
  • Send an email back and forth to a friend and create a funny story each adding a line to the story and just making it as funny and silly as possible.
  • Playing with your dog, if you have one.
  • Video tapping yourself doing something silly.
  • Do your own Karaoke at your house.
  • Paint
  • Take photos of things that make you smile.

I did an assignment in one of my photography classes and we had to put a slideshow together and I used James Taylor’s Shower the People song and I spent time whenever I could over a three week period taking photographs of people being loving to each other. It was fun and uplifting and I got the added bonus of making my entire class smile and feel good.

With this holiday week upon us, stress levels can climb, so if you’re up for it and to assist in taking the edge off, pick one things that you think is fun or will make you laugh or smile and do that and commit to one a day and keep to 3-5 minutes. If you’re really enjoying something, and you’re inspired to do it longer than that, then knock yourself out but not literally. See what happens to your mood and general outlook.

Here’s to Having Fun Now and Knowing What Fun is for You.
