I’m Soooo Stuck
Have you ever said this to yourself? I’m soooo stuck or some variation of this statement.
The key to getting unstuck in anything is to first and foremost learn to foster self-acceptance. But how do you awaken to the ways you don’t accept yourself.
Notice the self talk (self judgment) that is behind your statements of stuckness.
For example, if you say to yourself, “I can’t believe I stay in this situation.”
What is the emotion below that statement? If I was a betting woman, I’d have to say there’s anger and the anger comes from what you say to yourself about “staying in this situation.”
You might have to really look deeper to really hear what’s going on for you. It could go something like this, “I can’t change this situation because I’m too old, too uneducated, don’t have enough money, this is all I know, I can’t learn something new at this stage of the game.”
Let me take a couple of these statements and translate for you:
- I’m too old. = I should have made better choices when I was younger.
- I’m too uneducated. = I’m stupid. I missed my chance at education.
- I don’t have enough money. = I’m poor. I can’t create wealth.
Do you hear the self judgement in any of these? I do.
We live in a world that tends to promote harsh self judgement. Think of all the commercials that are out there trying to rid you of your imperfections and the sheer fact that they’re trying to rid you of your imperfections is telling you your wrong to have imperfections, from your psych (God forbid you have dandruff or acne) all the way to your socio-economic status (drive the right car) and everything in between.
So going back to feeling stuck. Can you see why it might be beneficial to release self-judgement first. Has judging yourself ever, really EVER effectively helped you to change from an inspired place.
It can certainly help you “Buck up” and fight your way out of a situation, but you still won’t be truly free, because the self judgement will rear it’s head again and you’ll find yourself stuck in a new situation until you free yourself from the shackles that bind you. The shackles of self judgement.
The next time you hear yourself saying you’re stuck or some variation of this, notice how you feel first and this will help you get in touch with the self-judgement that’s below the surface that holds the status quo of being stuck in place.
Here’s to getting unstuck by releasing self judgement.
Leap!
