How to Handle High Stress Effectively – The One Thing You Need to Do
When high stress hits it’s really easy to lose your footing.
High stress throws you into fight or flight. When you’re in fight or flight you virtually lose the ability to think clearly, because you’re in reaction mode.
When you’re in reaction mode…..guess what?
You don’t make the best decisions, because when you’re in reaction mode you’re really focused on the problem. When you’re problem focused, there’s no space for solutions to come to you.
So how to you best handle high stress?
What if the ONLY thing you need to do when high stress hits is sooth yourself?
You might be thinking….Wow!!! That’s brilliant! How do I do that?
Tap of course.
This may sound so basic, but there’s a lot to be said for going right back to the basics when you need to. Keeping it simple it best.
I know this personally because I immediately went into panic this past Tuesday morning when I got a tearful phone call from my daughter because she’d fainted twice.
My immediate reaction was full blown panic. I was going to drop everything, cancel all my appointments for the week and hop in the car and drive eight hours to see her.
It was pointed out to me that I wasn’t going to be any good to her in this state of mind. That I could actually help her more remotely from a calm state of mind.
So I tapped and I started to calm down, then I was much better able to start working with her on some things for her to do immediately so she could calm down too and start to get some relief.
Long and short of it, it’s been a highly eventful week working through all of this with her and finally figuring out what’s happening. I had the help of a lot of amazing people who were immediately willing to help out and this, in turn, helped me tremendously. I didn’t have to “go it alone.”
Good solutions come from a calm state of mind.
It’s interesting that this morning while on my hike with my dogs, it dawned on me what was going on with her.
Guess what my state of mind was? You got it…..calm.
Now these same amazing people are doing everything they can to help with the best possible solutions.
So when high stress hits…..your one and only “job” is to soothe your nervous system. Soothe the fight or flight response.
Once you’re soothed….you create an opening for the best solutions to come to you.
Here’s to You!
