Are you working for a paycheck or a passion?
This was a question I really didn’t ponder fully until a few years ago. I always new I “suffered” from chronic restlessness in my work life.
I was a great employee. My driven nature was perfect for my job. I showed up. I did my job well. I built solid relationships in my field. I was respected for my work ethic and for doing a good job. I went above and beyond, often, and I got a lot of positive feedback. My driven nature was perfect for what I did.
The problem was my chronic restlessness. I had that inner gnawing that was like a low grade fever. It was there but not too often in my face but it couldn’t be denied for long.
I tried to ignore it, but it inevitably swelled to a resounding crescendo. This pattern kept repeating and I couldn’t ignore it any longer. So I’d go on the search for “That Thing” that was going to set me free. “My Passionate Profession.”
I always had genuine, heartfelt intentions, when I’d find “That Thing” I’d dive in with vigor only to quickly end up disheartened because I could never seem to maintain lasting positive traction and it was never for lack of trying.
The thing I realized recently about my desire to keep trying is that despite repeated failures, what I was really telling myself is that I didn’t want to give up on myself. I had lined it up that there was something wrong with me and that I just didn’t have what it takes to really succeed. As I look back, I see that this inner gnawing was, let’s call it, my Higher Self encouraging me on. It was encouraging me to keep going… To Not Give Up On Me.
If you have ever felt this way, I invite you to watch the video included. It’s really my story around this and my hope is that you find it helpful to you.
What if today can be the day that you make that turn in the road towards your passion?
