Are You Afraid of Being Afraid?

If you believe that your thoughts create your reality, or what you think about creates what shows up in your life, this can feel liberating on one level and it can also create more fear.

See how this lands for you.

You feel fearful about not wanting something to show up in your life and you notice that you can’t seem to stop feeling afraid. The more you feel afraid, the more you want to stop feeling afraid and the more you want to stop feeling afraid, the more you try to stop your fearful thoughts and the more you try to stop your fearful thoughts, the more powerful they seem to get.

Are you dizzy yet?

But this is what can happen when you feel fear and then tell yourself,

I have to stop feeling fear, because if I don’t stop feeling fear I’m going to bring the very thing I don’t want into my… into my life.

Can you feel how locked up you get with this thinking?

Does this kind of thinking feel heavy to you?

Here’s a little exercise. Right now… try to stop the next thought that pops in your head.

How’d it go?

Were you able to stop the thought?

I think the resounding answer to this is, “No, I couldn’t stop the next thought.” You might have been able to suspend it for a few seconds, but ultimately the thought springs forth, despite your best efforts to STOP it.

Now, the next time you go to ocean as the tide begins to come in, try to stop the tide from coming in. You’re going to have as much success at holding back the tides as you are with holding back a thought. Doesn’t matter if the thought is positive or negative….you can’t stop it from happening.

What you can do is interrupt your thoughts.

Here it is again.

You can’t stop your thoughts, but you can interrupt them.

Understanding this can really take the pressure off. This is the first step to changing your thoughts and thus changing your reality. It’s a way to stop doubling down on yourself.

Feel the difference between these two scenarios:

Oh my God. I’m so afraid of what’s going on in the world right now. There’s so much terror. What someone I love is caught in the next attack? What if I’m attacked? No one can predict when they’ll strike again. I have to stop watching this. I have to stop thinking about this.

Do you feel afraid just reading this? Now feel into this scenario.

Oh my God. I’m so afraid of what’s going on in the world right now. Wow…I am feeling afraid.

Now start tapping:

  • Karate Chop:
    • Even though I’m feeling afraid. I chose to acknowledge my fear right now.
    • Even though I’m feeling afraid. It’s still just a feeling, and I’m changing it now just by tapping on it.
    • Even though I’m feeling afraid of what’s happening in the world right now and I’m afraid for myself and my loved ones, I chose to acknowledge my feelings now.
  • Eyebrow: I’m afraid.
  • Side of the Eye: I don’t like feeling afraid.
  • Under the Eye: It’s still just a feeling.
  • Under the Nose: I can’t stop the feeling from coming to me.
  • Chin Point: But I can interrupt it.
  • Collarbone: And I’m doing that right now.
  • Under the Arm: It’s okay to feel afraid.
  • Top of the Head: It’s the pressure I put on myself to stop feeling afraid that creates more resistance me.

Just this short tapping round interrupts the pattern and begins to make it okay for you to feel fear. By doing this, you stop doubling down on yourself. By telling yourself it’s okay to feel afraid. As you interrupt the feeling, you actually begin to release it. It’s not feeling the fear that’s the problem, it’s feeling the fear and then letting it run amuck with you that creates more fear and thus more resistance.

For more tapping on this you can watch the video I’ve included and as always, take responsibility for yourself when you tap and if you emotions spike, just keep tapping. The tapping will work to begin to release and shift the fear.

Here’s to Feeling the Fear and Freeing Yourself From It!
